Two days after releasing Visual Studio 2022 for Windows and Mac, Microsoft today released Visual Studio Code for Linux as Snap.

Microsoft released the free Visual Studio code for Windows, Mac, and Linux in April 2016, but Snap support finally brings automatic updates to Linux users.

Developed by Canonical, Snaps are containerized software packages that work natively on the most popular Linux distributions.

They feature automatic updates and rollback functionality, improved security, and greater flexibility for developers working in Linux environments.

Snaps can be run universally on over 40 Linux distribution variants.

Visual Studio Code as a Snap means that Microsoft can spend less time working on packaging and managing builds on Linux distributions.
