How to Book Your Exam at the LPI with a Discount

certificações tiLPI Exam Discount?

Yes, if you are a Linux Certification student, you are entitled to a 15% discount on all LPI Exams. It could be Linux Essentials, the LPIC-101 and LPIC-102 exams for the LPIC-1 certification, or the LPIC-201 and LPIC-202 exams, for LPIC-2 certification, or even the LPIC-3 level tests ( mixed environment, virtualization and security).

If you want to know the prices of the LPI exams and other certifications, click here. The price you are going to pay is 15% off.

Which LPI exam should I choose?

If you don’t know which exam to choose, you first need to ask yourself where you are in your IT career.

If you are starting your career, are in college, or know very little about Linux, I recommend that you take the Linux Essentials certification because it is an “entry in” certification, so you can familiarize yourself with Linux. It is also a very desirable certification for those who are software developers. After all, almost everything runs on Linux:)

If you already have some experience with Linux, have already graduated, or are already in the labor market, I recommend that you go straight to the LPIC-1 certification, as it is recommended for those who already have a certain background and, precisely because of this, want to go far.

But I want the LPIC-3 virtualization certification all at once, can I do it?

Hmmm… unfortunately not. The LPIC-1, LPIC-2, and LPIC-3 certifications are progressive. So, to get to level 3, you must first pass the LPIC-1 exams, and then LPIC-2.

Do I need to do Linux Essentials to do LPIC-1?

No. You can take the LPIC-1 certification straight away.

Do I need to take both LPIC-1 or LPIC-2 tests on the same day?

Not either. I don’t even recommend it. A space of 10 days is sufficient to cool down and prepare again for the fight.

Wait… but BEFORE asking for your discount, you have to have an LPI-ID

Yes… to claim your discount as a Linux Certification student, you need an LPI-ID.

But what is an LPI-ID?

The LPI ID (Linux Professional Institute Identification) is mandatory and without it you will not take the test. It is the number that identifies you in the LPI system.

I understood… And how do I get an LPI-ID?

To create your LPI-ID is very simple. You access the LPI website, and then click Sign up (or Register - if it’s in English) in the menu at the top of the site:

Fill out the LPI form with your details:

It is very important, when generating your LPI-ID, that you enter your name as it is in your civil registry, ID, CNH, or passport. This will be the name that will be printed on the certificate when you pass the exam (s):

I have already created my LPI-ID, how do I request a 15% discount on the LPI exams?

If you are our student, access our teaching platform, then click on Dashboard. If you are not yet our student, choose one of the courses and register today.

After clicking on the Dashboard, choose the option to open the discount request form:

After completing the form, you must wait until your coupon is ready. This process may take 1 to 2 days. I signed up, what now?

You will receive an email from [email protected] asking you to click on an address on the LPI website. This is a unique address that enables you to receive your voucher discount. If that email hasn’t arrived, check your spam folder.

Once you click the link in the email, you need to accept the Linux Certification invitation.

Linux Certification invitation accepted, now what?

Once the invitation is accepted, you need to log in to the address https://people.lpi.org/login and use your access credentials in the LPI. These credentials may be the email address you registered with the LPI, or your LPI-ID, along with the password.

Once you have accessed the LPI portal, click on VOUCHERS:

Then, click on COUPONS and choose the discount coupon available to you. Copy the number code, as you will need it to apply the discount when paying for your exam:

I copied the discount code to purchase the LPI exam and now what?

This numerical code that you copied is used to purchase the VOUCHER for the exam. So now click on VOUCHERS, just above COUPONS.

How do I choose which LPI exam I want to take?

Now you must choose the TYPE of exam you want to take:

There are 3 types of examination:

  • BETA Exam Voucher: these are certifications that are still in the final release process. If you choose this type of exam, be aware of the objectives of the exams, which may be quite different from the objectives of the current exams. We only recommend choosing this one if you really know what you’re doing. ;-)
  • Essentials Exam Voucher: this voucher allows you to purchase the exam for the Linux Essentials Certification.
  • Professional Exam Voucher: in this option you can purchase vouchers for the LPIC-1, LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 certification exams.

Your 15% discount is valid for any of the exams

Once you’ve chosen the exam you want to buy, click on ADD TO CART:

When does my LPI discount coupon come in?

Paste the discount code and click APPLY. We recommend that you purchase the exams separately if you are scheduling, for example, the LPIC-101 and LPIC-102 exams for the LPIC-1 certification.

Soon after applying a valid discount code, you will see that the discount amount is applied to the exam price:

15% discount on the LPI exam Oops, I got my discount, now I just have to pay?

Yes, to pay, click on CHECKOUT and then the CREDIT CARD option. For now, to purchase your exam, you will need an International credit card.

I don’t have an international credit card, now what?

If you don’t have an international card, I recommend that you open an account with Banco Inter. They offer a digital account with no fees, you open your account via your cell phone, and after opening your account, you transfer or deposit the money into the account.

In order for the Inter card to be released, apply to the CBD with the amount you need and limit on the card. You can use that invested amount later to pay the bill. With this, they release the international credit card function with the same restrictions as your application. Account opening, card issuance and limits are subject to review by the bank.

I recommended this method to several people and it worked very well.

I was able to pay for the exam, now what?

After paying for your exam on the LPI website, they will provide you with a VOUCHER, which is a code that begins with the letters “LP” followed by numbers. Keep this code carefully, as it is with it that you will schedule the exam on the Pearson VUE website.

Until when can I schedule the exams?

Be aware of the expiration date of your voucher. It generally expires 1 (one) year after the date of purchase. The voucher’s expiration date will be the same as the maximum date you can schedule your exam. Example: if your voucher expires on 23/12/2021, you can book and take your exam until 23/12/2021. In this example, it will not be possible to schedule anything after 23/12/2021, which will be the last available day in the exam scheduling calendar.

Can I use the same code/voucher for more than one exam?

You can’t. Each discount coupon releases the discount to purchase a voucher, and a voucher can be used to pay for just one exam. If you want to schedule two exams (for example 101 and 102), you must repeat this process twice.

How do I schedule my LPI exam?

Once you already have the LPxxxxxxxx voucher issued by the LPI website, you now need to log in and create an account on the PearsonVue website.

In the box, right on the home page, type “LPI” to appear the Linux Professional Institute:

I’m not yet registered with Pearson VUE, what do I do?

After choosing the LPI, you need to sign in with your Pearson VUE credentials or create a registration. If you are already registered, you can jump directly to the Dashboard. If not yet, there is, go ahead and click on CREATE ACCOUNT.

How to create a Pearson VUE account:

After clicking on CREATE ACCOUNT, you need to complete the registration. To get started, you need your LPI-ID again:

After pasting your LPI-ID, enter your name exactly as in the civil registry (ID, CNH, Passport, etc.). If your name is different when registering your identity document, it is likely that you will not be able to take the exam, especially for people who change their last name after getting married or divorced.

Confirm your email, because it is through it that you will receive a copy of the transcript of your exams:

After completing your registration, choose your username and a password to access the Pearson VUE website to schedule your future exams:

I already have a Pearson Vue account or created my account, and now how do I schedule the LPI exam?

Once you have accessed or created your PearsonVue account, you will go to the Dashboard to choose which exam you want from the menu of available exams.

If you already have an exam scheduled, it will appear in the “View an upcoming test” section.

To schedule a new exam, click VIEW EXAMS:

Can I take my LPI exam online?

Some LPI (Linux Professional Institute) exams can be taken online. For this you need a computer with a microphone and camera, available in any good notebook.

The exams that are ONLINE have the code ending with the letter “v”, such as 010-160v, 101-500v. The first code “010” or “101” indicates the exam code. The second code “160” or “500” indicates the exam version. And the “v” you already know.:)

What LPI exams are available in Portuguese?

The answer to that question depends on whether you are going to take the exams at a Pearson VUE center, or online, remotely. See the following table:

(v)**
**Online **Exam** **Vue Center**
Linux Essentials 010-160 Portuguese and English Portuguese and English
LPIC-1 (exams 101-500) e 102-500) Portuguese and English Portuguese and English
LPIC-2 (exams 201-450 and 202-450) English Portuguese and English
LPIC-3 (all) Not available online
English
DevOps (700-100) Not available online English
It is important that you choose an exam that is the same type as the one you bought the voucher on the LPI website. So if you bought a Linux Essentials exam, you can only use this voucher to exempt payment on Pearson VUE from the Linux Essentials exams (010-160).

What documents do I have to submit for the LPI exam?

On the day of the exam you must present 02 (TWO) valid documents (check the validity!!) , issued by an authority in your country that contains your name legibly, has your signature and has your photo on it. If your ID has a photo when you were a child, it’s best to update your document.

How long do I have to arrive or present myself in advance for the LPI exam?

You must arrive or present yourself online at least 15 minutes before the exam.

I arrived late, what now?

The grace period is 15 minutes after the exam start time. If you arrived after that, you miss your exam, and you have no refund of the amount paid. Don’t be late.

Can I bring water for the test, candies and some cookies for the LPI exam?

Not Nahnahnina. Neither the Pearson VUE exam nor the remote exam are water or food allowed. Very rare reports from examiners who allowed water to enter with the bottle without a label. But it’s not the rule and don’t wait for it.

And what does my cell phone look like, my watch, etc.? It’s worse than the airport, buddy!

No personal items are allowed. At the Pearson VUE Center they will give you a storage room where you can put your cell phone, watch, gold chains, earrings, etc. Exams have already been asked to remove even my wedding ring, empty all pockets and even lift the hem of my pants. Once they even asked to see the glasses to see if there was nothing hidden in them. Worse than airport. :-/

Can I have a piece of paper to write something down on the LPI exam?

No. If you take the exam at a Vue center, you’ll get a plastic chalkboard, and a pen that writes on the chalkboard and erases. No paper comes in or out. In the remote exam you can’t even do that.

How is the LPI online exam?

In the online exam, you can take the test from home or office. It is important to follow the following guidelines:

  • Proctor, as the person taking the test is called, is an English speaker (or something like that if they are someone from India, Pakistan, or another country with an accent). If you don’t speak English, don’t take the Online test;
  • have a computer with a reasonable processor. The test environment may be slow at times;
  • Choose a quiet place with as little noise as possible;
  • Only you can be in the bedroom or living room;
  • You will need to use the computer’s webcam, built-in microphone and speakers;
  • You cannot use a headset, watch, gift, nothing, and there will be Do you want to show your hands and arms without any long-sleeved shirt or sweater;
  • Connect your computer to your Internet preferably using a cable; Exam has happened to drop over Wi-Fi; There - can’t be anything - absolutely nothing - on the table besides the computer;
  • You can’t have anything within reach of yours arms; You - cannot chew gum, candy, or smoke;
  • You will have to film the entire room, and even under the table - sometimes more than once;
  • You cannot use a keyboard and external monitor - if it is a notebook;
  • Lock the bedroom or living room door. If someone shows up during the exam, they will interrupt and cancel your exam;
  • avoid looking up into the void, up, down - they may think you’re getting glue from I don’t know where;
  • don’t read the questions in voice, don’t even move your lips while reading. They may think that you are “blowing” at someone;
  • look at the computer and only at the computer. Anything “suspicious” or “different” they can question you or stop your examination. I already “looked up and down” to think, and Proctor stopped my exam to question me and ask to see the environment again and even scolded me;
  • they can - out of nowhere - stop your exam and ask to see the room again, or question you about something. It’s normal;

If this type of “surveillance” makes you nervous, and if you are already vaccinated against Covid-19, look for a nearest Vue Center. It’s simpler, they’ll let you take the test in peace and it’s much less stressful.

How do I know if my computer can handle the LPI exam?

Pearson VUE provides a system test for you to see if your computer meets the minimum exam software requirements.

Can I take the LPI exam on Linux?

It’s eehhhhh… No. Pearson VUE only offers the exam for Windows 10 64-bit and Mac OS 10.13 and above.

And if I need to, how do I reschedule my LPI exam?

It is possible to reschedule your LPI exam as long as you take it through the Pearson VUE website one (1) business day before the exam date.

I won the Lottery, and I want to cancel my exam, is it possible?

Yes, it is possible to cancel your exam and be reimbursed as long as you request it through the Pearson VUE website at least 01 (one) business day before the exam. But if you used an LPI-generated voucher to pay for the exam on Pearson VUE, check the LPI policy.

How to choose the LPI exam language?

After selecting the exam, you must select the exam language. Be aware of the language options available depending on the exam and the form of application (at the Pearson Vue center or online).

I want to take the exam at a Pearson VUE Center, where can I take it?

Based on registration information from your address, the Pearson VUE website will show the test application centers available for the nearest LPI exams. You can choose another location or city using the box at the top of the page.

Generally, in large urban centers, you can find more than one possibility of a test center. But be aware that the system may show centers in nearby cities (or not!).

I chose the LPI test location, how do I choose the exam date?

Once the test location has been defined, you can choose which available day you want to take the exam on:

Available dates may be different at different test centers.

Choose the time for your LPI exam

Once you’ve chosen a date, scroll down the page to choose the time available for the test on that particular date:

How long does an LPI exam last?

Depending on the exam, you will have 60 to 90 minutes to complete the test. The Linux Essentials exam lasts a maximum of 60 minutes and all other 90 minutes maximum.

How much time do I have to ask each LPI question?

In a simple account, you have 1 minute and 30 seconds for each question, with no time to review the test.

In the exam it is possible to mark questions and review them before finishing, but you have to do this within the exam time. So you actually have less than 1 minute and a half for each question.

How to apply your LPI voucher to Pearson Vue?

After selecting the test day and time, you need to confirm the data, such as exam code, language chosen, and test application center (location):

With all of this fair and perfect, it’s time to use the LPI voucher to pay for the exam. Just paste the code generated by the LPI website that begins with “LP” into the “Voucher/Promotion Code:” field.

If the code is correct, the amount payable for the exam will be reset and you can confirm the appointment of your exam.

Once that’s done, you just have to study hard.

How many exams do I have to take to become an LPI certified?

Depending on the certification, 01 exam or 02 exams, namely:

  • Linux Essentials - one LPIC-1 exam
    • two exams, 101 and 102
  • LPIC-2 - two exams, 201 and 202
  • LPIC-3 - one specialty exam, 300 or 303 or 304
  • Tool Engineer from DevOps - an exam, 701 (+ LPIC-1 or equivalent to the recommended OS) - BSD specialist - an exam,

702 How many points do I need to pass the LPI exam?

As of April 1, 2009, all exam weightings for LPIC exams were standardized to 60 weightings.

Each LPI exam is rated on a scale of 200 to 800 with a passing score of 500. Because exam questions vary in difficulty, the number of correct answers needed to achieve a passing score of 500 will depend on the exact combination of exam questions you write.

I took the test, when will I receive my results?

You will receive your results and a score report immediately after the exam. Pearson VUE will transfer your exam results to the Linux Professional Institute within 24 hours, and if you meet the certification requirements, your certificate will be issued.

At that point, you can download a PDF copy of your certificate from your lpi.org account.

The physical certificate will arrive in the mail in 4 to 6 weeks. (Note: physical certificates are not issued for Linux Essentials).
